RECORD WEEK !

Well, I hit a new record this week with 15 1/2 hours of training, 9 hours of which was over the weekend.

We had a double coached workout this weekend. Saturday we met in Menlo Park for 1 hour of pool swimming, 1 hour of running - in the rain, 1 hour (plus a little for me) of biking - in the rain, then 30 minutes running with core training, 30 minutes biking on the trainers, 30 minutes running combined with run drills, and finally 20 minutes on the bike on trainers.

Sunday we met at lake Del Valle in Livermore for a 1 hour lake swim, bike ride to Tracy and back (60 miles) and then 2 x 30 minute trail runs with core training in between. That was the schedule anyway and some members of our team accomplished all of that. Many of us however only made 1/2 of the 60 mile ride because the winds were blowing 25-30 mph with gust to 50 mpg (according to the radio report that Skip heard). When we came down Tesla Road into Tracy the wind was a cross wind and we literally had to lean hard to the left to stay up. Controlling the bike was extremely challenging and with no shoulder it was pretty dangerous. At our water stop on Corral Hollow the coaches and managers where trying to figure out the logistics of getting everyone back to Del Valle including bikes. Lucky for me (and Mai, May, and Leslie) Skip was out riding as well and rode to Del Valle, retrieved the Explorer and came to rescue us; so I missed out on 29 miles of the ride.

I have to say that I felt good about accomplishing the ride over the hill to get out of Del Valle, and over the hill from Livermore into Tracy but was disappointed to not be able to do the entire course. It was just too unsafe with the winds, no shoulder and quite a bit of traffic. I guess I will have to conquer that ride another day.

And just in case you are curious, I burned over 4800 calories in the weekend workouts...too bad I'm not eating glutens or dairy because that could provide for one BIG BROWNIE SUNDAE! oh well, soy ice cream and a buckwheat waffle will have to suffice.
